Soften the sore with petroleum jelly. If petroleum jelly is not available you can use honey instead. Use clean cotton and apply it to the cold sores covering it entirely. Honey is known to have antibacterial and antiviral properties which can prevent cold sores from acquiring bacteria that may threaten and prolong the symptoms. You can also use other emollient products to shield the affected area.

Take vitamins – Strengthen your immune system with lots of vitamins such as vitamin A, E and C. You can get these vitamins by taking in fruits and vegetables that contain such vitamins which include; carrots, green leafy vegetables, kiwi, tomatoes, spinach, avocado, grains and nuts and others. You may also take vitamin C in the form of tablets. The required dosage is 1000mg which must be taken three times a day to fortify your body enough to be able to solve the issue of how to get rid of a cold sore. These vitamins will help your body to combat the cold sore virus and prevent it from further spreading and prolonging the symptoms. It is important to pick vitamins which are soluble to your body which will be absorbed quickly.
