Preventing the nest from manifesting is probably a lot easier than trying to get rid of one. Hornets make their nest on trees. They like protein so pet food, meat and fish should be kept indoors away from scouts who might lead the construction of a Hornets’s Nest near the potential source of food. Most insect sprays will confuse and kill hornets preventing them from harming you while you are evicting them. Once you have the hornet you can throw in the trash or incinerate it to prevent any larvae from maturing. The adult hornets will likely die from a sufficiently aggressive spray so don’t worry about them.
